Green Card Application

For centuries the USA has been one of the immigration hotspots of the world, and generations later many Americans take it for granted that the country was largely built and founded by people who were from different countries. More than 300 years into its existence it is still seen by many as an attractive place to live, work, and raise a family.

My experience navigating the U.S. immigration system actually proved to be easier than thought. I went to the local US Citizenship and Immigration office, told them my situation (my wife was a foreigner and we had just married in the US), they gave me a small stack of forms to fill out, and after a few bumps in the road my wife had a green card.

There have been many successive waves of immigrant groups to the USA, and in the past 25 years immigrants to the US have come from the following top 10 countries:

  • Mexico
  • India
  • Philippines
  • China
  • Vietnam
  • Dominican Republic
  • El Salvador
  • Cuba
  • Haiti
  • Jamaica

For an interesting comparison, in the year 1900 immigrants came to the United States from these top 10 countries:

  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Canada
  • Great Britain
  • Sweden
  • Italy
  • Russian Empire
  • Poland
  • Norway
  • Austria
